A hoppy brown ale is very much an American thing. The sweet spot with play between malt and hops is a personal thing: some veer towards a cleaner malt profile, some towards the fruit and freshness that the hops bring. We feel our hop levels here are on the low side, but certainly present. Cascade, an American classic, brings pine and a touch of citrus

The 1861 Keeping Porter stems from the 1861 Running Porter that Orbit brewed together with Anspach & Hobday back in the spring of 2022. The brewers kept back the final barrel of Running Porter to be aged in oak barrels with a house blend of Brettanomyces. The ageing process has produced a smooth, luxurious, walnut-coloured beer, reminiscent of a burgundy red with a complex, balsamic acidity. Aromas of cocoa, oak, vanilla, leather, and tobacco, with the malt profile developing a milk chocolate sweetness along with flavours of figs, malted biscuits, and a long, dry finish

Expect a body of luxurious smooth caramel, intense malt flavours and a hint of nutty umami on the palate, before a delectable warming alcohol finish. The strength of a North American Barley Wine but with the malt flavours and mouthfeel of an old English classic

This is based on a 19th century recipe from the Truman Brewery in Brick Lane, which we've adapted and modified. The black malt brings lots of burnt toast, overly roasted coffee flavours, and an assertive acidity. We have started using a little chocolate malt to try and reduce those acrid, burnt flavours, and some crystal malt to bring sweetness to balance the acidity. The resulting beer is dark, dark black. It has an oily texture, loads of rich dried fruit and alcohol warmth, often with hints of leather, tar, smoke and chocolate, and then a herbal hop bitterness on top
